about

Mark Stevenson is a three-time Emmy Award–winning creative leader, photographer, and storyteller whose career spans news, nonprofit advocacy, and agency production. Based in Croton-on-Hudson, New York, he has built a reputation for combining sharp visual storytelling with a deep commitment to causes that matter.

As Chief Photographer at News 12 Westchester, Mark leads a 25-person team of visual journalists, shaping daily coverage, long-form features, and special projects. His approach blends mentorship with innovation: training staff in advanced lighting, editing, and narrative techniques while integrating new technologies to keep production fast, flexible, and impactful. His work has been honored with multiple Emmys, a New York Press Club Award, and recognition from Clio and Effie Awards.

Before joining News 12, Mark worked at CBS News, producing high-profile interviews, breaking news, and features for a national audience. Earlier, he founded Uprising story+strategy=brand, a boutique creative studio dedicated to mission-driven content. There, he directed campaigns for organizations including NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), Mothers in Charge, and House of Heroes.

Mark’s series of short films for NAMI received widespread acclaim, earning bronze and silver Effies, three Clios (gold, silver, and bronze), and the prestigious Chiat Day Award. The New York Times described the work as “riveting… sincere and intimate,” while HuffPost wrote that the films “shook me to my core.”

Mark’s career began in the agency world, where as Digital Creative Director for Signature Advertising he built and led the firm’s video division, integrating production into large-scale campaigns for corporate clients. That foundation in marketing and brand alignment has informed every step of his later work in nonprofit advocacy and news.

Beyond professional milestones, Mark’s passion for storytelling is personal. He has devoted much of his career to amplifying underreported issues — from suburban slavery to public health crises — and he has a lifelong commitment to animal welfare. His family has always adopted rescue dogs and today shares their home with three large rescues who collectively weigh in at 230 pounds.

Whether behind the camera, leading a newsroom team, or building a cause-based campaign, Mark brings the same driving belief: that stories, powerfully told, have the ability to inform, inspire, and create lasting change.

Mark's eye for composition is virtually unmatched. He can see a shot, and take it in a split second that serves the subject being covered. His ability to compose cinematography is equally matched by his professorial instinct for the explanatory, and story-telling is a gift for him.
